The Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post No. 11 & Our Valentines Day Tradition

It’s time for the Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post again…..and I thought I would share with all of you some of my musings about Valentines day.

For years we have had a tradition in our home with our kids that we would have take out Chinese Food by candlelight for dinner on Valentines Day.  Oh sometimes my husband and I go out and sometimes we don’t but we always have this tradition and I usually write a note to my kids and my  husband about why I think they are all “fantabulous” and how they all have stolen my heart.  To some this may seem like a silly tradition but I wanted them to feel loved and just be a part of the excitement and this year since I am on a journey for all of us to eat less processed foods I am going to make the gang homemade egg foo young or stir fry and I think they will like it it will just be a different way to celebrate than we have done in the past.

People just love love so its clear why Valentines Day is a hit it’s just one of those holidays we celebrate…..and couples love it and so do all the kids I meet!  I loved when I was first dating my husband another opportunity to celebrate this momentous love between us and Valentines Day was just that occasion.  I still do but we just have a different idea on how to celebrates now a days. My husband and I have always been pretty consistent that we don’t buy each other just anything because its Valentines Day but instead we try to think of each other and maybe pick something up for each other or just acknowledge each other in some special way it could be me just making him a special dinner or we might spend a day treasure hunting together at antique stores.  He might pick me up another vintage kitchen gadget you all know how I feel about them.

Here is a picture of the latest kitchen gadget he picked me up this week:  (I don’t think I am going to have to worry about this egg slicer breaking any time soon…it’s very durable)

One of the things that inspired this post was this week we watched the latest “Middle Episode” (Full Episode at ABC.com) and it was all about the commercialism of Valentines Day and how the parents Frankie and Mike don’t cave in to all the Valentines Day Commercialization however when push came to shove it became an issue between them but I’m not going to spoil it.  I just had to laugh at the whole thing……

You have to see this show if you like to laugh and can laugh at yourself and your own family and want to watch relevant topics that affect parents and kids alike today….it’s hilarious!

So now on to “The Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post”…..I love all homesteading topics  I have been amazed at what everyone is doing on their homesteads.  I absolutely love the chicken and farm photos but the creativity from all of you is always so inspiring and definitely inspires me to get more productive and get the creative juices flowing and helping me to spring into action!
