DIY: Up-Cycled Rotating Strawberry Planter

upcycled strawberry planter

One of my favorite projects the Viking has put together is our “Up-Cycled” Rotating Strawberry Planter.  I love it because he actually used a discarded item a water tank that nobody wanted anymore to make a fabulous item that sits right on our deck and we eat strawberries all summer and its beautiful!  It’s also a real conversation piece and it took him hours and hours of time to make it so it’s a real labor of love!

Currently we have crimson clover planted as a cover crop along with our strawberry plants but I have more strawberry runners on the way and soon this entire planter will be full of strawberries!  YUM!

Here is a picture of some of the berries almost ready…just a little longer.

Here is a picture of how my husband cut the water tank in slits all the way around.

Here is a pictures of how he carved the hearts at the base which is mounted on a wooden base and he used discarded roller skates for the wheels!

I love his ingenuity with this trash to treasure project and its one that is near and dear to my heart…no pun intended πŸ˜‰   It is heavy to move now that it is full of dirt but you just have to get low and push it around so that all sides can get sunlight  πŸ˜‰  The best part is if you are out in the garden on a hot summer day you can just pop a delicious sweet berry in your mouth and for one brief second enjoy your hard labor and then you better keep moving because the garden won’t wait.    Until tomorrow!

Fondly,

my siggie :)

  1. I love this project. I was totally slack on the strawberry thing this year. πŸ™ I regret it, but there just wasn’t time. I also still haven’t decided on the best strawberry planter idea for me. I want to go vertical, but I don’t expect to do anything close to what you did! Maybe a pallet… not sure yet.

  2. That is so cool! We have huge strawberry growing issues here–the bugs and birds eat them if they are in the garden. We’ve been toying with different ideas, but haven’t come up with anything yet. Very cool idea!

    1. Kristi their are so many cool ideas out there….I guess you will just have to pick the one that works best for you guys….we have the same problem with our fig trees…I do net the fig trees when I am tired of the birds beating us to our harvest πŸ™‚

  3. That is really creative and super cool πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Plus, those strawberries will be really tasty once they’re ripe πŸ™‚ Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather πŸ˜‰

  4. I love it! What a great way to recycle and give a second life to an item! I think i am most impressed that you have strawberries already – it must be nice to have that Carolina weather!

I Love Hearing From All Of You! Thanks for sharing!
