1000 Pounds of Gravel & The Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post Ed. No. 19

What on earth do we need with 1000 lbs. of gravel well you better believe it has something to do with those raised beds we just put in.  The Viking in my life scored a deal on 1000 lbs of gravel for $30.00 and it looks great too…can’t beat it.  I love a bargain!

We plan to do the walkways through the raised beds but we also plan to put in some other walkways in around our lil’ suburban homestead too!  I am not a big fan of grass in the yard but I do like grass around for my chickens so we of course will leave plenty of grass and weeds for them around 😉

What does 1000 lbs of gravel look like?  Not that much actually….. but it was some doing for my husband to get it out of the truck and into the side yard.  He had to actually use a T-frame and my son luckily only had to help my husband move it from behind his truck to the side of the yard.

I will keep you all posted on our progress with this gravel and all we do with it!  Isn’t it fun the things homesteaders get excited about?

Now it’s time for my very favorite event that I host weekly….. “The Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post Edition No. 19” blog hop.  Okay so after I broke the news to you about my potential kitchen re-do we may be changing our minds well kind of……my husband is thinking that with all of his free time he has (that’s sarcasm) that he would like to custom build our cabinets so I know they will be beautiful but I also know how much extra work that will put on him and don’t want him to have to do all that.  Of course I need a new canner, and a new freezer…I’m a frugal gal so I don’t want to waste money on things we don’t need so I over analyze sometimes what we need to purchase yes I have a list and then I have a list for the list!

I love hearing what you all are up to on your homestead’s I know it’s an extremely busy time of the year so feel free to link up anything you have done this past year that has not been featured here before I would love to check it out and I know my readers would too!

  1. Hey Karen Lynn—wow, what a great deal! The things that can be done with nearly free gravel! It looks quite nice between your gardens!

Hey—I linked up today. I am really kind of new to the whole Linky thing….I linked up my 4 posts from this week. I’m not sure if that’s against Linky etiquette and I don’t want to wear out my welcome, so if it’s a problem that I’ve posted so many, please feel free to take them down and let me know what the limit is. I’ve linked your blog to all 4 posts, btw. 🙂 Thanks!

  2. Kristi! So glad you linked up this week! I allow duplicate posts because the whole point here is to share what we are doing on our homesteads! You know its funny but when I first started doing this whole linking up thing I remember just being fascinated with all that was going on at everyones homestead! I couldn’t read enough! Now sometimes I don’t have enough time but I try! So glad you stopped by your enthusiasm is contagious!

    1. Ohh good! I was hoping not to be “that lady” that was annoying all my homesteading sisters on the net! LOL I totally know what you mean–it’s HARD to read what everyone’s doing. I love it, but it’s not easy to keep up. I like the blogs that have the linkies because that makes it SO easy to remember them (which results in my reading them often).

Anyway–thanks. I’m happy to link to good blogs, and yours is one of them! 🙂

          1. Enough to cover a road running through about 8 acres. Can’t remember the exact amount but it was something rediculously insane. Hmmm, now it’s going to bug me. Will need to look back. No, I’ve learned you should always get more than you think you’ll need!

I Love Hearing From All Of You! Thanks for sharing!
