Tis’ The Season For Homemade Holiday Gifts – Make Your Own Lip Balm with Beeswax

tis the season for homemade holiday gifts

I am so excited about making homemade holiday gifts this season and my go to gift for this year is homemade lip balm made with beeswax from our bees and other natural ingredients that are healthy for your body and skin like coconut oil, and Vitamin E oil.

Making lip balm is fun because it is quick to make so you get instant gratification and a gift idea as well! I like the idea of keeping chemicals off our lips as well.  You can also come out with your different flavors or fragrance.  We are currently using spearmint and vanilla essential oil but plan to add coconut, and apple as well.

We also reused and recycled by reusing some tins that we stumbled upon which I love when that happens and we get to re-use or repurpose items we already have on our homestead!

Mind Yo’ Beezwax Lip Balm Recipe From Lil’ Suburban Homestead

  • 4 oz. coconut oil (you can use raw or refined but the refined is preferred if you don’t want the coconut fragrance)
2 oz beeswax (be mindful of the flash point of beeswax or it can catch on fire)
5 capsules of Vitamin E Oil – you need to drain liquid from capsules into oil/beeswax mixture
    10 drops of Castor Oil
Right as you remove from heat add essential oil as described below and keep stirring:
20 drops of essential oil (we are using spearmint and vanilla right now)

You then pour into containers which is why it is so important to use a pot with a spout and it is also super important to weigh all of your ingredients to make sure your recipe is exact.

This recipe is super simple however the flash point of beeswax is 490-525 degrees and it will catch on fire so be careful! Do not start making the balm and then go off and get on Facebook you have to pay attention to making this balm!

Beeswax softens at 90 degrees and melts at 143 to 151 degrees.

If you don’t want to make your own you can order your own off of our Etsy store….just click here!

This is such a fun recipe and it’s instant gratification so your whole family could join in! This would make great teacher gifts, gifts for friends and neighbors , and stocking stuffers for family!

The Viking and I shared how to make this on Around The Cabin.com so as soon as that goes live I will post the link to the video here!  If you have not heard about Around The Cabin you have to check it out they have tons of shows every night of the week and they are fun and interactive with a chat room.  Most topics are preparedness related and there is something for everyone!  We had so much fun doing this show!  Here is the link to my host page at Around The Cabin click here!

This recipe or a recipe very similar to it will also be shared on my podcast this week on Survival Mom Radio Network Lil’ Suburban Homestead with Karen Lynn where I share 3 DIY Holiday ideas this Thursday and I also talk about some Homestead Holiday Traditions!  I hope you stop in!

Wishing you all a beautiful week!

Fondly,

Karen Lynn
