DIY Rocket Stove – Homemade Applesauce

lsh rocket stove suburban off grid cooking series no. 5 diy rocket stove

Hope ya’ll are all having a wonderful Sunday!

I am so excited to share with you No. 5 in our Suburban Off-Grid Cooking Series where we use our DIY Rocket Stove to make homemade applesauce. We are using our rocket stove to make homemade applesauce but this post is mainly to feature that we are using the rocket stove to cook with and to point to all of you that a rocket stove is such a handy “Prepper” item to have for a crisis. You only need a tiny amount of wood or kindling to run it to heat it up for warmth so that point alone is enough to have one on hand. You can build a rocket stove fairly inexpensively compared to purchasing one this model the Viking made which is discussed more in the video he did share that ours was not made all that inexpensively or at least time wise it used up a lot of resources. However I have seen some inexpensive ones made on pinterest our version is on the heavy-duty side but not too heavy to pick up which is good!

This video is of us using our DIY rocket stove is rather lengthy but you will get to see me and The Viking in action cooking applesauce right on our DIY rocket stove. It was cold and windy when we shot the video and we taped it for our episode at Around The Cabin.com so I am talking to Rich Radio Show Host and The Around The Cabin viewers in this video but it’s for everyone to watch!

Why would I ever need to do this you might ask? The reason is the more you practice your off-grid cooking skills the more proficient you will get at this skill and in times of crisis or emergency this won’t be an issue. It will be less stress for you and your family. It’s like anything else you practice such as going to the shooting range to practice shooting your gun. Practice truly does make perfect!

When you are in an emergency situation where the power may be out you are going to need a way to cook your food at our homestead we have a couple of options I have already shared how we are cooking in our All American Sun Oven in our previous Suburban Off-Grid Cooking Series posts and now today we have talked about the DIY Rocket Stove, and we have 3 to 4 more ways of off-grid cooking we will be sharing with all of you coming up over the next 2 months so stay tuned! The more options you have for off-grid cooking or cooking in an emergency situation the more comfortable you will be. Each option offers different advantages and different advantages and you may not have access to all of the options but the more you have the better for you when you need to rely on it.

At one point I did not feel comfortable cooking with all of the options but I am slowly but surely learning all of the options ahead of me and making sure I can manage them all and be able to do it successfully when the time comes. Knowledge truly is power!

I hope you enjoyed the video and maybe even learned something new! What are your favorite methods to use for off-grid cooking?

I wish you all a beautiful week ahead!

Fondly,
siggie
