Wow friends…..

I feel like it has been so long since I posted last. Well this Spring has been a whirlwind for sure but most notable was our recent trip to speak at the Mother Earth News Fair in Asheville, North Carolina.

We always have a fabulous time attending this event every year and it was our first time where we got a chance to speak to fellow chicken and homesteading enthusiasts and I must say it was a blast!

We listened to Melissa Caughey of Tilly’s Nest speak along with the Tradd Cotter of Mushroom Mountain. We weren’t able to listen to all of the fabulous speakers but we spent much time in the vendor tent learning a lot about some of the latest trends in farming.

We had so much sharing our love for DIY: Chicken Coops and other creative structures to house chicken coops on the cheap such as our mobile tractor which I have written about a couple of times on the blog!

We discussed why your budget should not hold you back from raising chickens as there are many options for building an affordable chicken coop that will work for you and your family.  We discussed the importance of planning ahead when you build your next chicken coop and several other considerations.  I also wrote about this very topic for Fix.com so that article basically lays out a viable, affordable chicken tractor plan for your homestead.

We had our local homesteading event yesterday which was our “Homestead Open Garden” event look for photos and a post about that soon! We had a wonderful day.  We shared with local visitors our chicken coop and chicken yard set up, a tour through our upcycled greenhouse, and a walk through our raised bed gardens.  We talked about our soil mixture and how to plan for an edible landscape.

I wish you all a beautiful week…until next time!

Be well,
