Upcycled Pallet Chicken Tractor

This is the tractor before we added the shade canopy and the wheels.  Prior to adding the shade canopy we used a piece of plexiglass.

I love using materials that would otherwise go into the dumpster  or rot away and make something out of it well in this case my husband built this Chicken Tractor.  Not only is the chicken tractor all done and not only did we use recycled pallet boards for this project but the end result is extremely efficient and useful.  The chickens like it too because they get to forage on new grass on a regular basis even on a small 1/3 acre like ours.

My husband took the wheels for this tractor from the landfill off of an old gas grill and brought this home for this project and then he forgot where he put them we looked for them for about two weeks but he finally found them.

My husband also added a rope handle to easily pull the chicken tractor around the yard.

Even the shade canopy that my husband fashioned over the chicken feeder and water container was vinyl material that was another dumpster diving find!

This last photo shows the finishing touch of the wheels once we found them added to the tractor.

The truth of the matter is you don’t need a lot of land to have a chicken tractor and it very nicely houses two chickens quite happily.

I hope this inspires you to build or do projects yourself that your inspired about for your homestead!  It all starts with inspiration and a great idea!  Thank goodness for Pinterest as it is one of my favorite places to go get some inspiration!

Fondly,

  1. I love your chicken tractor – and it’s a bonus that you’ve upcycled so many things that had outlived their previous useful lives. Great job!
