Hello Everyone!

I feel like I have been semi off the grid preparing for this huge Hurricane Matthew that just came up the coast and while we were overall ready you can never be too prepared if you know what I mean.

I am happy to report that we not only survived Hurricane Matthew but we did not lose power and that was with damaging wind gusts. We were prepared for the worst and that is what is important. My heart aches for all of those who suffered great loss in this storm and my prayers are with all of you.

Off Grid Living

Speaking of preparedness I get to share with you all today my thoughts about a fantastic and engaging book that came across my desk and I am so excited to share about it with all of you!

Not too long ago I promised or mentioned that I would do a fantastic book review of Off Grid Living and here it is!

Could you live in the remote wilderness? Have you wanted to experience an off grid lifestyle yourself?  If so this is the book for you!

More About Ron Melchiore

Ron Melchiore is an Outdoorsman/Pioneer, Homesteader, Remote Exploration Camp Manager and Author. Living off grid since 1980, Ron and his wife Johanna have spent the better part of their lives “unplugged.” As part of the back to the land movement that originated in the 70’s, they have spent their adult years living the homestead dream.

Ron and his wife Johanna have been published in BackHome Magazine, Small Farmer’s Journal, and Countryside and Small Stock Journal, and appear in Life Off Grid, a documentary film and book about people living off-grid throughout Canada. Life Off Grid aired on British Columbia’s Knowledge Network and is produced by Phillip Vannini and Jonathan Taggart. He is currently blogging for several websites including Mother Earth News.

The couple currently live on a remote lake in Northern Saskatchewan where they’ve enjoyed the freedom of the wilderness for the last sixteen years. Ron’s book is titled Off Grid and Free: My Path to the Wilderness and is published by Moon Willow Press.

Ron was so much fun and interesting to interview.  Ron inspires others to live an off-grid lifestyle even today and that you don’t have to enter into an off grid life-style being an expert.  He picked up his knowledge and wisdom along the way.

Him and his wife faced all sorts of challenges, bears, other critters, and even fire in their off grid lifestyle but they still prefer their off grid lifestyle to a more main stream way of life. They found ways to make a living, deal with medical issues, and even picked up hobbies and by the way the interview is great but the book is filled with stories and pictures that the interview we had just cannot even duplicate so make sure to pick yourself up a copy.

Ron writes in a way that makes you feel that you are right there next to him and some of the stories you can’t even believe. He shares about the great lengths he had to plan and prepare for every eventuality.

In the interview I admitted that I am not ready to go “off grid” while I think I’m tough enough I just don’t want to do it. I’m a confessed tv addict especially The Walking Dead that being said don’t take our chickens and our bees away lol!  Him and his wife grow their own food and harvest it each summer; they eat a seasonal diet in the off grid wilderness and Ron credits them eating so well to his wife Johanna!
